Business English

This course is for Students who wish to improve their English language skills for a career in business or if you are already working within a business environment. The ELAS Business English option covers exam preparation for the Cambridge Business English Certificates (BEC). These exams are at 3 levels; Preliminary, Vantage and Higher. You can study this course in combination with any of the General English courses or as a standalone course.

You do not need previous language qualifications but you will need to have English skills at an intermediate level or higher. You will have an initial assessment to find out your level of English and the right class for your needs. About the course

This course introduces key business concepts and topics and develops practical skills within real business scenarios including presentations, negotiations, telephoning, meetings and discussions. Based on an interactive approach, students participate in problem-solving tasks, case studies and business simulations. Students are also encouraged to take a business English exam such as BEC. These courses are full time (15 hours a week) and run for 4 terms per academic year, these start in September, January, March and June. Each term is between 10-12 weeks. The end of each term leads up to the Cambridge ESOL exams and students can arrange their study periods to suit their needs and can join the course on any Monday. Students who want to study for the exams part time have to be enrolled onto a full time course e.g. General English. You will be expected to buy a course book for this course which will cost approximately £15-£25. You will also need to pay an exam fee of £60-£90, depending on the exam level.

Your tuition fee includes supplementary teaching materials, student handbook, use of internet facilities, and student ID card.

How will I be assessed?

Depending on your level, you will study at intermediate, upper-intermediate, or advanced level and sit the appropriate Business English Certificates (BEC) exam.

When you successfully sit your exam, you will have demonstrated your English abilities, which may be useful in your future career. You may also wish to go on to a higher level EFL course.
