These courses are for adult foreign language students who are in the UK temporarily either for work or study and want to improve their English language skills.
You can learn English at five different English language levels, ranging from elementary through to advance level and you can start your classes on any Monday. These are good all-round courses to give a basic knowledge of English or to improve on skills that are already present.
Entry Requirements
You do not need previous language qualifications. On your first day you will have a placement test to find out the right class for you. We have General English classes from Elementary to Advanced Level. General English classes are flexible and you can start any Monday for full-time study (15 hours per week). About the course
Classes are interactive and learner centred and you will be encouraged to take part in pair work, group work and individual work. Your lessons will cover the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, all of which will be studied through communicative activities. You will have regular progress tests. The General English course runs all year round for approximately 44 weeks and is divided into 4 terms which begin in September, January, April and June. Students can start the course on any Monday. You will be expected to buy a course book which will cost approximately £15-20 and on some courses you may need up to 3 books per year.
Your tuition fee includes supplementary teaching materials, student handbook, use of internet facilities, and student ID card.

How will I be assessed?
For General English you will be assessed through regular progress tests and receive a certificate of attendance. You may choose to add an exam option part time (at an additional cost). If you take the Cambridge ESOL option you will sit a Cambridge ESOL exam at the appropriate level. If you take the IELTS option you will sit an IELTS exam. If you take the Business English option, you will sit the Cambridge BEC exam.
Where next?
You may wish to go on to a higher level ESL course or study on a mainstream higher education course if your English is at an appropriate level.
