Passports and visas

Once you have completed an enrolment form and paid your fees in full we can send you a confirmation of Acceptance letter which will help you obtain a visa, should you need one to study in the UK. If you need to extend your permission to stay in England in order to continue studying at the School for a longer period, you will need to apply for a visa extension.

Accommodation

Luton - The accommodation agencies with which we cooperate will be pleased to arrange accommodation for you. All our accommodation is carefully chosen, visited and monitored by the accommodation agents to ensure that standards are maintained and to make sure you will be comfortable and happy. We keep in close touch with all our accommodation providers who deal with any problems which might arise. The accommodation agency and our staff will do their best to find accommodation for you at short notice, but you should book accommodation at least four weeks before the date of your arrival.

Leicester - The accommodation at University of Leicester during the summer program will be located at Oadby Campus. Students will be allocated their own private furnished rooms within the ‘Digby Hall’ of Residence. This is a very good standard of accommodation with shared toilets and bathrooms. There is an option subject to availability where ELAS UK can provide en-suite single rooms at an additional cost.

Airport Transfers

We can arrange for you to be picked up from the airport and taken to your accommodation.
Please note:

  • All prices are per person, for a one-way journey (see registration form for fees info )
  • To book an airport transfer, please indicate on the Registration form which airport you would like to be collected from

Work

Once a full student visa has been obtained (if you need one), you are allowed to work and you do not need a work permit, but there is a limit on the number of hours you are allowed to work during term time. If you do not require a visa there is no limit on the number of hours you are allowed to work.

Personal bank accounts

We are happy to provide a Letter of Introduction to assist you in opening your own personal bank account in the UK. There is a nominal fee for this service of £5.

Personal mails and faxes

Whilst studying with us you can use the School address to receive personal mail. In addition you can send and receive faxes from the School offices at a fee. Please note we are unable to accept registered or recorded delivery on your behalf and cannot be held responsible for any mail which is mislaid.

Internet Access

There is free internet access to all students at our Centres. The Luton centre also provides Wi-Fi access.

Insurance and personal security

We advise you to insure your personal possessions and to arrange insurance against accident and loss before you come to England. Once in the UK we can advise you on personal safety. We also strongly recommended you have private medical insurance cover. You can purchase insurance cover from our web site please see the following link: www.elasukadults.com/insurance

Health

Students should advise the School Administrator of any medication they are currently taking and inform ELAS UK staff of any medical conditions which might preclude them from participating in specific activities. Students should ensure they have adequate travel insurance to cover any medical emergencies that may occur.  If you need to see a doctor, ELAS UK can arrange an appointment for you as a “Temporary Resident”, however you may be charged for this (depending on government reciprocal agreements).  If you need hospitalization, you will be treated at a NHS hospital but again you must ensure you have adequate insurance to cover any medical expenses. Our School Administrator will assist you in making appointments with doctors or dentists if you need treatment during your stay. If you are not a national of an EU country or a country which has a reciprocal health agreement with Britain, you may have to pay for medical treatment in Britain.

Certificates and reports

At the end of your course you will receive a Certificate of Achievement and Attendance provided you have attended classes regularly. This Certificate states how long you have studied and what level you have reached at the end of your course. Regular progress tests are administered with teacher feedback to help you with your studies.

International student card

You can apply for an International Student Card (ISIC) which can be used to obtain discounts for travel and when you buy goods from certain shops. There is a charge of £9 for this. For further details see ISICcard.com
